Instinctiv.com wants to make your iPod or iPhone smart! They describe the features of their application this way: “The random shuffle was a cool feature when it first launched. But, let’s be honest, it left out the most important element: you. After all, your taste in music isn’t random-it’s instinctive.
That’s why Instinctive Shuffle was created. This smart new app goes far beyond the random shuffle and actually makes song recommendations to match whatever mood you’re in. So you can explore and experience your music in a whole new way.”
By skipping the songs that you don’t want to hear Instinctiv captures these decisions and learns from your preferences/choices. It sounds very similar to Pandora.com’s free music streaming feature but takes it directly to you and your iPod. I’m a fan of any tool that helps my music experience become a better one.
Instinctiv Shuffle™ is the first product by Instinctiv (formerly Predict Systems), a company dedicated to changing the way that consumers experience their entertainment.

The site is so beautifully simple looking with a cool retro feel. It reminds me of the radioheadremix site we discussed a few weeks back. My only gripe is the 12 track limit. Can we get that bumped up to 20? Thanks.

chilirec is like TiVo for internet radio. You log in, choose your music that you want to record, and within about 5 minutes you have music that has been recorded for you off the internet. chilirec then stores the music in “your personal space” on the web and you can return to listen to it whenever. This service is totally free, however, it is questionably legal (just like this entire genre of services). For you say.no.radio’ers the quality of music is subject to the web radio stations. If you can find good indie channels you will probably be able to record, save, and listen via chilirec.

One awesome feature of the service is that you can actually upload a copy of the playlist you create on chilirec directly to your ipod and listen on the go! No need to be tied to your comp. Awesome. chilirec is still in beta release so check it out.

How it works

Check this sweet new music tool that allows you to select your favorite artists and automatically receive e-mail tour alerts when they come to your town. Definitely eliminates the manual process of checking iLike, MySpace, ticket vendor sites, venue lineups, etc. on a regular basis. As an added bonus, you’ll also be given the date and location of concerts from similar bands you might also like. For example, I searched for Cut Copy shows in Chicago and was informed that they are playing with Black Kids and Mobius Band on May 7th at Abbey Pub. In addition, I see that Hot Chip is playing the Vic tomorrow night. Hey, I like Hot Chip! Sweet!

Radiohead took another innovative step last week when they decided to release the 4 individual tracks that combine to make up the song “Nude” on 2007’s In Rainbows. Fans can now purchase the vocal, drum, guitar, and strings tracks separately on iTunes. What’s even more interesting is that Radiohead is encouraging fans to use the tracks to create their own remixes. This is just another head turning move from the band who decided to release Rainbows for free on the Internet - encouraging fans to donate. We can’t wait to see them at Lollapalooza this year!

When MTV started airing ‘Elimidate’ (and other equally worthless shows) and permanently abandoned their roots, music, many were very upset. When Fall Out Boy became “Sell Out Boy” and abandoned their indie roots, many others were very upset.

Pitchfork.tv provides and awesome combination of what MTV and Fall Out Boy stole from us, great indie music with great indie videos. Not only does pitchfork.tv hook up some great videos they are on the ball with offering some mp3’s and blogs along with the usual fodder of photos, reviews and interviews.

My take:
Site well built. The UI is phenomenally creative where the video playing never leave center stage but you can still read your reviews and get the concert schedules. As a say.no.radio faithful this is a welcomed combo to my favorites.

So how does it work? Awdio has negotiated deals with many big name clubs all over the world, and they’ve installed high quality streaming equipment in each of them. The site is currently in a private beta period right now, so you may have to wait to actually use it (or you could try the password here). But once you get in, mmmmmmmmboy is it slick. All of the clubs show up on a grid, and the ones that are currently streaming music are lit up.

You can click on any of them to get more detailed information about the venue (like where it is, what it looks like inside, what the talent’s like). Then you stream the music right through your music player (iTunes probably) - so you don’t have to keep the browser window open.

Other than the connection dropping a couple times, I’m really impressed. The sound quality is top notch. You can tell the streaming equipment is plugged right into the sound system instead of using microphones. If you’re bored of your usual top 8 at 8, check out Awdio.
